Safety is of primary concern to the club officers and members of the Tehchapi Sportsman Club (TSC). Safety is the responsibility of everyone who uses the range and any violation of range rules will not be tolerated.
- When entering the range, be sure to RAISE THE RED FIRING FLAG. Always lock the gate after entering.
- When leaving the range, the last person leaving will LOWER THE RED FIRING FLAG AND LOCK THE GATE.
- BOTTLES, CANS, METALLIC OR OTHER NON-STANDARD TARGETS are NOT allowed on the range (accept for club sponsored / supervised events).
- Members are responsible for the actions of their guests.
- Members must accompany their guests for the entire time guests are present at the range.
- Members are NEVER PERMITTED to give the range lock combination to anyone.
- Members will cleanup after using the range and will leave the range in as good or better condition than it was found.
- LIVE AMMUNITION IS NOT TO BE DISPOSED IN THE TRASH CANS.
- SHOTGUNS AND HIGH POWER RIFLES SHALL NOT BE USED ON THE PISTOL RANGE.
- Everyone on the range must obey the BASIC SAFETY RULES and all CLUB RULES posted at the various shooting stations.
- Caution must be exercised with regard to vehicles using the down-range road. Always be looking for vehicles and listening for the sounding of their horns. RIFLE AND PISTOL SHOOTERS MUST CEASE FIRING AND SECURE FIREARMS UNTIL VEHICLES HAVE CLEARED THE RANGE PROPERTY LINES.
- No vandalism of any kind will be tolerated.
- Do not attach targets to THE UPRIGHT BACKBOARD POSTS. USE ONLY THE PLYWOOD between the posts.
- Firing at any rocks either on the ground or up on the hills is not allowed.
- In addition to these rules, members are expected to be thoroughly familiar with and to obey basic firearms safety rules.
- Any person found violating basic safety rules and/or Club rules will be given a hearing by the board. This hearing may result in dismissal from the club or loss of Club privileges for a period of time deemed by the Board to be appropriate to the violation.
- ALL SHOOTERS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 MUST BE UNDER THE DIRECT SUPERVISION OF AN ADULT WHO MUST BE PRESENT WITH THE SHOOTER AT THE IMMEDIATE SHOOTING STATION.
- NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES OR ILLEGAL DRUGS ARE ALLOWED ON THE RANGE.
- No shot size larger than 7 ½ shall be used on the trap ranges.
- No armor-piercing or incendiary ammunition is allowed to be possessed or fired on the range.
- IF IT’S NOT SAFE, DON’T DO IT!
- Your weapon is to be pointed down range at all times.
- Weapons must be brought onto and off the range in an unloaded condition. The only exceptions will be law enforcement officers who carry loaded weapons as part of their employment OR members who possess a valid Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) Permit.
- Before using the PISTOL Range area, check the Rifle area for shooters. Do not start shooting until rifle target area is clear and shooters are back at the firing line.
- When checking targets at the 200 and 300-yard lines INFORM THE PISTOL SHOOTERS TO CEASE FIRING Be sure to INFORM THEM THE RANGE IS OPEN UPON YOUR RETURN TO THE FIRING LINE.
- No cross range shooting is allowed.
- When checking targets, weapons must be unloaded, actions open, grounded or holstered and no weapon handling on the line.
- A ten-minute target marking period will be observed every half-hour whenever multiple shooters occupy the range. During a CEASE-FIRE all pistol and rifle lines shall be closed.
- All shooters MUST CALL A CEASE-FIRE whenever vehicles are using the down-range road and continue the CEASE-FIRE until the vehicles have cleared the property lines.
